Avalon International Breads History

The bakery Avalon International Breads came up in June 1997 in Middle Town, Cass Corridor neighborhood, Detroit. The founders Ann Perrault and Jackie Victor initially worked in Stonehouse Breads in Leland, Michigan, and built the dream of a lifetime together and also started a bakery.

Though neither of them was from Detroit, they looked at this less-chosen land as a perspective for building a community that would be fruitful both for their business and also for the Detroiters.

After working in the baking industry for a long time, finally, the life partner finally decided to work on their passion project of opening a bakery and eventually in 1997, pulled the first loaves of bread from the newly installed hearthstone oven in a small bakery house in the Cass Corridor of Detroit.

Since day zero, Avalon aimed to produce 100% organic flour-based artisan baked goods and after being around for more than 25 years, Avalon International Breads continues to do so.

Apart from that, Avalon International Breads was primarily based on three bottom lines namely: Earth, Community, and Employee. With these three core values, Avalon went on to become one of the finest bakery houses in Detroit.

The bakery took pride in serving 500 customers each day by 2008, the number of which elevated to 1000 per day in 2015. What makes it different from others is that first, it assures that all the products at the bakery are made out of earth-driven ingredients.

Secondly, Avalon works towards building a better and more vibrant Detroit by reaching out to the unmet needs of the natives. And finally, it allows the employees living wages that include benefits of health, shelter, vacation, and the like.

Apart from the original Avalon International Breads in the Cass Corridor neighborhood, there are four more locations including the Avalon City Ovens, a production house of the brand.

Over the years, the Avalon International Breads menu with prices has evolved owing to the changing food culture. The Avalon International bread menu prices however are minimal enough to cater to customers of all creeds and communities.
