Collin Street Bakery History
The first Collin Street Bakery store started as a passion project in 1896 in Corsicana, Texas. In 1896, Augustus Weidmann traveled from Wiesbaden, Germany to Corsicana, Texas, and started transforming his home-cooked cakes and bread recipes and sold those from his bakery.
That’s how Collin Street Bakery was conceived. However, the partnership of Gus and local entrepreneur Thomas McElwee in 1900 became a landmark in Collin Street Bakery’s history.
This solid partnership propagated the sale of Collin Street Bakery and soon took them to a bigger space and newer concept to expand their business.
In 1906, Collin Street Bakery modified the ‘bed and breakfast service by turning a portion of its infrastructure into logging for regular visitors. This concept took Collin Street Bakery to new heights and accidentally staged the base for the first-ever mail-order service in the US.
