Panera Bread History

Panera Bread Inside usamenuprices

Saint Louis Bread Company was the parent company that played a big role in the birth of Panera Bread.

Ken and Linda Rosenthal made this bread company in Kirkwood, Missouri. This happened in 1987, when he invested $150,000.

Later, they got it back as a business loan from the United States Small Business Administration, or SBA for short.

The bread was made using a sourdough starter from San Francisco. The original brand still uses it to this day.

By 1993, Saint Louis Bread Company had expanded to about 20 locations, which was a major hotspot for the city.

It got the attention of a public company called Au Bon Pain Co., which officially acquired the chain the following year by investing $23 million.

Four years later, the management decided to change the name of this bread company to Panera. This name came from a Latin word called “pānārium” or “pānāria.”

It meant “breadbasket” or “rice bowl.” It symbolizes an area that suddenly became rich in wheat, or, as we can say, bread.

Anyway, the intention was clear as day: give it a more natural or original name that will be remembered throughout the next generation.

It went well, since you, yes, are now reading this article. In short, it’s easier to remember, but removing the Saint word somewhat makes it sound like a charitable organization rather than the massive brand that it is.

The fundamental ways never escape sight, and the level of hygiene and care for each indicator bread remains the same.

In May 1999, Au Bon Pain Co. sold its original company, Au Bon Pain, for $78 million to Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co.

Panera Bread was a massive success, bigger than its origin, so they decided to focus solely on it.

Panera Bread Review

Do you still have doubts regarding the Panera Bread menu or prices? Well, in simple terms, you will mostly see vegetarian dishes.

It’s a full-fledged bakery with simple dishes. Some chicken dishes were added recently, so our first target would be that.

Chicken Bacon Ranch was the meal we wanted. Surprisingly, now Panera Bread has a lot of non-vegetarian alternatives, which is a big thing.

Grilled chicken was the main attraction of this dish. Meanwhile, applewood smoked bacon, aged white cheddar, and ranch did a perfect job of giving it a new flavor.

And their Black Pepper Focaccia was just marvelous—a crunchy delight right in the middle of this item. In short, each bite will have meat, veggies, and this focaccia.

Giving it a salty, a bit sweet, and tangy texture. We originally thought they only served vegan food, but now that’s been debunked.

Next up was their new signature dish, toasted frontega chicken. Yup, yet another chicken dish with smoked and pulled chicken.

Along with fresh mozzarella, red onions, fresh basil, vine-ripened tomatoes, and chipotle aioli.

For seasoning, it had salt, pepper, and their world-famous Black Pepper Focaccia. Pretty much everything, from the first dish, and more.

We’ll recommend going for this one instead of the first since you are getting more ingredients and the portion is quite generous too.

Chipotle aioli is also a thing to coincide with—a way better addition than a simple ranch. And its sour flavor will give you the flavor boost that everyone needs.

Well, those two sandwiches got us good, and now we have almost no space for anything else. So it’s time to gull some liquid.

Frozen strawberry lemonade is the go-to choice in these situations. This fresh strawberry fruit blend with ice gave us the perfect ending we deserved.

Final Thoughts

Panera Bread has come a long way, from serving just 3 items to now serving way over 30. Remember that some locations will have more or less items on their menu.

It totally depends, since some locations are owned by vegan owners. Anyway, that shouldn’t be a big issue.

Panera Bread also has a takeout or home delivery service. As of today, they have 2,169 locations in the USA and Canada.

That means it doesn’t matter where you live; it will be delivered on time. In the end, Panera Bread didn’t fail to surprise us.

With the use of AI, it was a piece of cake when ordering and even receiving it. It’s one of the leading restaurant giants in the USA, and now we can agree on that regard too.
