Piccadilly Restaurants History
Soon to become Piccadilly, restaurants were first spotted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1932.
We don’t know for sure who actually founded it, but the legacy started when Tandy Hannibal Hamilton officially acquired this small cafeteria.
It was originally known as Piccadilly Cafeteria, but it was changed to a restaurant soon after the acquisition.
However, the major expansion happened in 1988 when they bought Morrison’s Cafeterias, a competitor with the same concept but a more favorable number on its side.
Piccadilly had another 100–150 locations, but with this acquisition, the numbers doubled to 270. But can they really manage all these locations within a single organization?
Well, that is impossible. Cafeteria-style restaurants heavily rely on ingredients and buffets, so in short, a lot of food is made each day.
That calls for massive funding, which Piccadilly did not have and probably won’t have since these concepts don’t shine as brightly as fast food.
Due to this, Piccadilly Restaurant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice, first in 2003, which was solved by Yucaipa Companies and Diversified Investment Management Group.
The second one happened in 2012 when it was again bought off by Falcon Holdings. Azam Malik took over as CEO and resumed expansion.
Piccadilly Restaurant was shrunken down to a mere 40 locations until this point, but the worst was about to come.
You probably know that buffet and cafeteria-style restaurants have similar concepts where they heavily rely on crowds of people.
So what’s the worst that can happen? Well, what if the entire globe hides behind their home for an entire year?
Well, that’s what exactly happened, and everyone knows why. That again had a heavy impact on its business, and it ended up deleting more and more locations during the COVID lockdown.

We went to Morrison’s Cafeteria in Mobile, and our first encounter happened with a familiar dish called Fried Block Fish.
I remember eating it quite a lot, and one that Piccadilly served looks good. It’s fried with a layer of herbs and spices to make the outline more flavorful than it already is.
As for the side, we had fresh broccoli, mashed potatoes with gravy, and garlic bread. Overall, this is a balanced meal that everyone needs.
The garlic bread, in particular, was made with proper care. Most chefs cheap out on small kinds of stuff like this bread, but Piccadilly Restaurant did their part right, that’s for sure.
And man, oh man, the block fish is almost similar to the one I used to eat. It’s a bit on the rough side, while I prefer it a bit juicy.
But apart from that, this tastes great; side dishes add a good flavor boost to it, and when combined with all three, the mixture of flavors just goes nuts!
Nostalgic feelings! Well, this is a big meal, so I don’t think I can have anything heavy for quite a while. So it’s time for something sweet.
Chocolate cream pie is my preferred choice. Some went with red velvet cake, which seems like a limited-time offer for Mother’s Day.
Anyway, my dessert was filled with cold chocolate in a flaky crust and then topped with whipped cream as a bonus.
