Pizza Guys History
Pizza Guys has a long history behind its back. It was founded by Reza Kalantari and Shahpour Nejad.
Their co-founder, Nejad, was an Iranian immigrant, and he arrived in New York on August 28, 1978. He was 16 at the time, just a year younger to be working part-time at a store.
The next year, when he legally crossed the age of 17, he decided to enter the market for work and eventually landed in the pizza industry.
He initially started as a delivery boy, but with his broken English and a lot of support from his family, he managed to climb up to the point where the business owner offered him a chance to be a partner.
He took the offer immediately, and with his own money, he graduated from Cleveland State University. He took up the field of mechanical engineering.
But in the end, that was nothing more than a piece of paper, because his dream was to start his own business in the food industry and not to become a mechanical engineer of some sort.
After graduation, he sold off his partnership stake and left for California with those funds in his hands. He eventually started his own business, but it had a rocky start.
After a while, in 1986, he met a person called Reza Kalantari, who then encouraged him to start a business with him.
And when he heard the name Pizza, he just couldn’t stop himself from moving forward with the plan. At this point, both had quite a lot of knowledge about the industry.
Nejad knew East Coast Pizza, which he adapted to the taste buds of Californian folk, and yeah, it was the founding stone for their chain, which just boomed from here on out.

Our team headed to Contra Loma to check out the true Pizza Guys menu and prices. Some items had us curious, and first on the list was the MVP. MVP stands for Most Valuable Player or Person in most cases.
But here it means Most Valuable Pizza! Well, they are giving it VIP treatment, that’s for sure, but how good is this thing really?
The default combination is good, and yet our team wanted to try things out. First, we swapped the crust for Tuscany Thin Crust and then the regular red sauce for Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo.
Other ingredients remained the same, like pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onion, spinach, and mozzarella cheese.
Avoid going for it; hot pizza and spice don’t go well for the mouth. I can digest any spice they can throw at me, but the same can’t be said about my team.
The sauce and red onion took over the show. The crust was good too, and the overall flavor was on point. Each ingredient was of high quality, and probably that’s why the end bill was high too.
Next up was an 8-piece wing. We also heard a lot about it. Especially with the combination that they use, the sauce is rumored to take it to the next level.
For the flavor, we went for the same RedHot sauce, and as for dipping, it was time to try out the infamous mango habanero sauce.
The mango sauce was both sweet and sour at the same time, giving it the tanginess that I wanted.
And when combined, they just fly off to another dimension, and you are along for the ride too. RedHot is spicy—a lot spicy—but the tangy sauce controls the outburst and gives you the courage to go for seconds.

Final Thoughts
So how was our experience? Well, the pizza was top-notch; the first bite cleared that out entirely. Especially the sauce, which was quite spicy.
As for the title of the first dish, it probably doesn’t have the kind of impact we hoped for. It’s good, but apart from that, there is no uniqueness in it.
Pizza Guys has a lot to offer. Apart from pizza, FlatBreads are quite famous; wings are good too, as you can see; and the unique combo of sauces can change the end result drastically.
In conclusion, yes, we definitely had a good time with them. The food was good, a bit on the pricey side for pizzas, but the rest had reasonable tags, and their sauce just hit differently. A must-try place indeed, and we give it full points with our regards.
