History of Baked By Melissa
The first Baked By Melissa store opened up in Café Bari in SoHo, Manhattan as a pick window on November 27, 2008.
Before that Baked By Melissa worked only on catering orders. The founder and the heart of Baked By Melissa Melissa Ben-Ishay turned her passion into a profession after being fired from her job.
Melissa always wanted to do something of her own about which she was passionate. Her job as an assistant media planner was certainly not the ideal profession she dreamt of.
On every holiday Melissa discussed starting a business with her brother, however, didn’t succeed, until she was fired from her job. As her brother said it was the best thing that happened to her.
Before starting Baked By Melissa, Melissa ran through the supermarket to get inspiration for her making menu.
She then amalgamated s’mores, cookie dough, and peanut butter cupcakes, along with the flavors that she had been making all her life, and finally birthed her famous Tie-Dye cupcakes.
What started from a pick-up window at SoHo has expanded to 14 locations over New York City including 1 store in Boston and 1 in New Jersey.
In 2017, Baked By Melissa was nominated for the Shorty Awards for its gesture of giving away 150000 cupcakes in a project named Side With Love so that people in the US can send a box of 25 cakes without any charge.
Again in 2018, Baked By Melissa created a special cupcake, whose proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
