Milo’s Hamburger History
Milo Carlton established this restaurant on April 16, 1946. He named it Milo’s Hamburger Shop and chose 31st Street in 12th Avenue North, Birmingham.
It stayed in the original location for a while until, in 1963, Milo’s moved from 31st Street to 2820 10th Avenue North.
The brand’s name is pretty straightforward. He used his own name along with the main dish that this restaurant serves.
Milo was a mess cook in the US Army, where he honed his cooking and made thousands of happy faces by serving his best creativity to them.
He then developed a secret hamburger juice with tomatoes and other secret ingredients; in the end, it was so good that he became eager to serve it more.
But the bigger question remained unanswered: ”What’s in that, Saus?” People still ask that, but the impact isn’t as great as it was back then.
Now we have a lot of restaurants offering unique kinds of sauces that taste even better than his.
Franchising began in 1982, when his son, Ronnie, completed his studies and asked his parents to start expanding their business.
How can a father say no to such a request? So with their permission, Ronnie opened at 509 18th Street South on February 7th.
Milo’s sells a unique kind of tea that you just heard about. It was the most famous item on their list, even more popular than his Hamburger by the end of the 20th century.
In 2002, Milo kept his tea business, Milo’s Famous Tea, and sold his restaurant to Tom Dekle, who is now the CEO of Milo’s Hamburger.
A lawsuit began in 2013 between those two brands. We don’t know the details, but Hamburger Chain won the lawsuit and started serving tea again.
Milo’s Hamburger Review
There should be no question regarding Milo’s hamburger menu and prices. They serve pretty much the same things that you see anywhere else.
Except for their tea and special sauce, which we will investigate thoroughly. The most efficient way is to combine deals.
So we did just that and eventually landed on the bacon cheeseburger combo. It had three items: a bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, and a medium-sized drink.
The burger included a 5.5-ounce thick-style patty made from pure ground beef along with a layer of fried bacon.
As for regular dressing, it had a lot of lettuce, cheese, onions, tomato, sour pickles, and ketchup.
The bun was grilled on both sides, along with a shimmer of mayo to make it a bit salty and crunchy. Overall, the ketchup was definitely the star of the show.
Patty was good too, but there was nothing extraordinary about that. But the sauce, on the other hand, was a bit sweet, and the sourness of the pickle transformed it into a tangy flavor.
But later, we found out that it wasn’t the signature sauce that we thought; it was just regular tomato ketchup.
Well, that’s a bummer, so we had to buy the famous Milo’s Sauce separately. But you can swap the ketchup while ordering.
So, how good was it? Well, at least it’s not bad; overall, it had a good texture, but that’s it! At this point, we had eaten so many unique dipping sauces that they kind of failed in comparison.
But it’s a good one, that’s for sure, and if it’s your first time in Milo’s, then rest assured and go for it; it’ll definitely win your heart.
Meanwhile, the sweet tea had a great impact. It didn’t just smell good; it tasted awesome too. Just go for it!

So how impactful of a journey was this? Well, not that much. We had big hopes for Milo’s Signature Sauce, but in the end, this wasn’t the preferred choice.
This means that, over time, people may stop liking it. That’s why now it serves regular ketchup, which doesn’t taste bad at all; in fact, that may be the better one in this case.
Overall, Milo’s menu is filled with goodies like desserts, drinks, and chicken nuggets. If Burger doesn’t surprise you, then have a look at those, and you are good to go.
In the end, we definitely had a good time, and the atmosphere was great too, which shows how disciplined their staff is.
