Figaro’s Pizza History

It was the dream of two entrepreneurs called Corkey Gorley and Al Debacker. They chose Salem, Oregon, as their base of operation in 1981.

The third helping hand came from a charity organization called H.E.L.P., which is now an official partner of Figaro’s Pizza.

The main target audience of Figaro was the parents of busy working families. It was the time when the nuclear family was still in shape.

A 9-to-5 job was a common thing, but one thing was uncommon, and that was their diet. Lunch and break hours were small, so eating a diverse diet was out of the question.

That’s where Figaro’s Pizza came into light, serving well-rounded Italian cuisine filled with meat chunks and veggies.

Solving the problem of unbalance amongst those people while making a name for themselves in the process.

Figaro’s acquired Sargo’s Subs in 2006, along with another franchise called Nick-N-Willy’s in 2012. Schmizza was separated from Figaro’s in 2014.

Making itself an independent brand and working as one. Apart from that, Figaro’s has no major scandals or any weird loopholes in the history department.

Mostly everything went as usual—franchising, growth, and all that good stuff. In 1986, Ken Robertson bought the company and started franchising it.

Just a few years later, in the 1990s, ovens were introduced. Pizzas were made inside a pit oven, as you would expect, but overcrowding made the baking time much quicker.

Around 95, their motto went viral: “We Bake or You Bake.” It basically meant their baking was just as good as yours, dividing themselves from the competition, who just rushed each order and failed to give total attention to each individual.

Figaro’s Pizza Review

There should be no more confusion about Figaro’s Pizza menu with prices anymore. Our second segment highlighted most of what you would see.

Obviously, some menus are store-exclusive, and some can be introduced at a later date. Anyway, as for us, these items are the only things we saw on the list.

Anyway, our first target was 12 Topping Classic. This bad boy was quite thick, and the cuts were massive as well.

The smoked Canadian-style bacon, pepperoni, salami, sausage, and all-natural beef strips were just heavenly. Generous portions and the smell was quite strong too.

It also had black olives, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, Dole pineapple, tomatoes, and 100% authentic cheese.

Red onions can make you cry if your eyes are sensitive enough. So ask to exclude it; otherwise, it may ruin the fun.

Well, as for the overall taste, it was great, as expected. With fresh ingredients, the cheesy dough turned out to be quite chewy, and the inside part had a bit of a creamy texture.

Each slice had massive vegetable and meat cuts in it, and believe me, you can’t eat it alone at all. Make sure to gather at least one other person, because these ingredients really come in giant portions.

Cheese biscuits were our side dish. Again, remember that it may be excluded from your menu because it varies per location.

Anyway, we got 8 breadsticks topped with mozzarella cheese for that creamy outline. Get zesty marinara as the dipping sauce, and you are good to go.

Next up was another pizza called Creamy Garlic Chicken. It also has generous portions of chicken.

Along with black olives, onions, green peppers, and fresh tomatoes. The cherry on top was their creamy garlic sauce, a super strong fragrance that goes well with the overall dish.

Final Thoughts

A classic Italian experience, the pizzas were delightful, but that’s pretty much the case with all Italian restaurants.

They know how to make food taste good, and Figaro’s knows that too. We’d love to see more side dish options, but that’s still fine.

What people are really looking for is the main pizza dish. And yeah, probably more sauce options would be fantastic.

Figaro’s pizza menu had chicken wings in it, which is a bit unusual. Oven-baked, obviously, and you can even make it a takeout.

As of today, Figaro’s has 37 locations in the three countries that we mentioned. But now the rumor has it that their next target is India.

Incidentally, FranGlobal has partnered with Figaro’s to open about 250 locations in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Delhi by fiscal year 2025.
