Snappy Tomato Pizza History

Snappy Tomato Pizza Inside usamenuprices

Robert Rotunda founded Snappy Tomato Pizza in 1978 in Fort Michigan, Kentucky. Initially, Robert had no plan to open his restaurant. The reason was solely due to his poor condition.

He did not have the best financial situation going for him, so his only bet was to do a 9-to-5 job and live the rest of his life like everyone else does.

Up until the 1970s, when he decided to take the biggest risk of his life, and yeah, that was to use everyone on gambling.

It’s a 50-50 situation; if he wins, then he’ll win big, but if he loses, then that’s the end of his journey.

He went to a horse racing arena and put all of his money on a horse named “Snappy Tomato.” Yup, you know where this is going.

That horse won, giving him the boost in finance necessary for opening his first restaurant. So he did just that.

Well, what if he lost everything? In that case, Snappy Tomato Pizza should also be lost to history.

Anyway, the fact is that he won, and he won big, which was the missing piece that this award-winning Pizzaria needed.

Soon, he also developed his very first recipe based on tomatoes and his family’s recipe. This was probably the signature feel that it lacked.

Soon after inventing the sauce, Snappy Tomato’s popularity went through the charts. The youngsters loved it and even won many awards for its awesome taste.

The franchising movement began in 1981, and in 1993, Charles H. Deters acquired the chain. Soon after, the chain also welcomed Spooners Pizza and Pizza Maria to its name.

In July 2022, The Snappy Tomato Pizza was officially bought by its largest franchise owner, Tim Gayhart.

Snappy Tomato Pizza Review

Currently, Snappy Tomato Pizza’s menu and prices are distributed among online delivery and other services.

In short, it’s cheaper in some way, or not. Anyway, the Snappy Tomato Pizza menu had some unusual turns.

The first one is this thing called hoagies. It looked like a sandwich but with massive bread instead of the small slices that we normally use.

Surprisingly, it had one vegan edition. Anyway, our pick was the one with the chicken ranch. The base ingredients were bacon, grilled chicken, tomatoes, and lettuce.

We will recommend adding extra onions since it tastes quite well with that. The ranch sauce was good too, but we heard the pizza sauce had a much better combination with this one.

Anyway, we went with the usual, so nothing can be changed now. We bought the pizza sauce separately and put it on top of the hoagies.

Well, it was good. You can think of it as a burger, which is long instead of round or circular.

The fillings are also similar to what burgers offer. For example, steak, chicken, veggies, ham, bacon, etc.

And yeah, cheese too, but adding their infamous tomato pizza sauce is a great combo. It would be best if you always went for this when ordering it.

By the way, did you know that pizza can also be transformed into a dessert? Well, that’s what the Snappy Tomato Pizza menu has just done.

There’s a dish called Cinnabread, which has cinnamon streusel and vanilla icing instead of the usual ingredients of a pizza.

It had the dough a bit harder than usual because now it has sugar in it, which gets harder over time. But the result was a delicious treat like never before.

Final Thoughts

The Hoagies and Desserts section surprised us the most. Casual pizza also exists if you like that. In our experience, their hoagies and wings are rather underrated.

They have the best taste, and when combined with their pizza sauce, it jumps straight to the god level.

There was one thing, though, and that was in the beverage part. There were no smoothie options or any original items, like juice of some sort.

Drinks usually happen towards the end, but they’re an inseparable part of the meal. So, in short, they should focus on the liquid part, just like pizza.

We’ve seen many restaurants become famous for their normal items rather than the signature dishes they were known for in the past.

Snappy Tomato Pizza has grown a lot in the past 40 or so years. But still, its growth streak has been under the radar, and it’s time for something refreshing.
