Westshore Pizza History
Bob Vasaturo founded this restaurant in 1994 and named it Westshore Pizza & Cheesesteaks. He used a small location on South Tampa’s West Shore Boulevard for it.
It was deli-style, so people had high hopes for it and it turned out to be good. The founder made fantastic pizzas, and the same goes for his bowl of creamy cheesesteaks.
Who knew that a steak could pair so well with melted cheese? Anyway, it was so popular that Westshore Pizza opened 10 more locations in just two years.
Yes, that was a massive growth streak, and you can pretty much guess why. His concept was unique and ahead of its time.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia was still an untouched region for today’s big shots like Pizza Hut and Domino’s. That’s why Westshore Pizza went crazy.
But everything came to a halt around the beginning of the 21st century. Their customer reviews started dropping, and the same goes for sales.
He hired a famous franchisee at the time called Gary Hoyle. Graydon D. Webb also accompanied him. It happened in June of 2019.
They took a survey of 800 customers and found out that individual stores had bad manners. Some of them straight-up blamed customers for being impatient, and that’s why pizza was not good.
Meanwhile, in some locations, prices were high, and Westshore Pizza coupons were location-exclusive. This made those coupons useless for travelers.
There were many other negative points described in their journal. For example, there was no specific brand coloring. Stores were randomly decorated, avoiding the basic philosophy of the founder.
Using this feedback, Westshore Pizza menu and prices were adjusted across all stores, and many new ideas were introduced. With time, it stabilized most of the damage caused by those locations.
Westshore Pizza Review
Now that’s done, let’s enter the world created by the Westshore Pizza menu. The current look of things should be better than in 2019.
So we went to Brandon, which was open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Anyway, their menu has expanded even further.
We saw a bunch of salad options, pizza pies, calzones, strombolis, etc. Well, we were here for pizzas, so there was no time for distraction.
Brandon had a few items on sale. Some of them were store-exclusive, so it’s safe to assume other stores may have some new items.
Anyway, we liked the sound of one pizza dish, and it sounded like Everything Bagel Pie. It resonates like fire and spits out what kind of ingredients it might have.
Everything means everything—just everything! The pizza base had nine toppings: pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and black olives.
Along with their mozzarella cheese, which was topped with everything bagel seasoning. We don’t know what kind of season this was, but it was good.
The pie had a mixture of flavors, which you can guess by its ingredients. Sometimes it was spicy, while on other angles it was sweet. Saltiness was on the charts.
Meanwhile, one of our crew members was allergic to mushrooms, so he ordered a different one called Chicken Caprese Pie.
It has a herbal mixture of garlic and olive oil. The base was topped with grilled chicken and diced tomatoes.
A mozzarella and parm cheese blend was also added later on, and finally, everything was topped with a balsamic glaze drizzle.
They had a bunch of salad options, but we went with Caesar Salad. It was a classic with fresh-cut Romaine lettuce, garlic herb croquettes, and grated parmesan.
