Roly Poly Sandwiches History
The company was founded by Linda Wolf and Julie Reid in 1996 in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, Georgia.
But some say that the first store may have opened in New Canaan, Connecticut, around 1986.
They had several shops in Key West, Florida, too, which led them to believe that the origin date may be much older.
Anyhow, the franchise began in 1996, and the location came to attention in 1997. A good start, don’t you think?
It was a time when women were coming out of their kitchens, entering a new era where anyone could work and experience the world for themselves.
By the end of the 20th century, Roly Poly had crossed double digits and was about to enter the big league. By the end of 2000, they had reached their peak with 170+ locations.
But time wasn’t on their side. Subway was on the rise, and many other sandwich-specialized chains outgrew Roly Poly by 2009.
From here on, they lost another 10% of locations over the next decade. Ultimately landing at 35 in 2021.
COVID did injustice to all, but it also helped these small chains find a way to fight back. The emergency fund from the government helped in reshaping the foundation of Roly Poly.
Right now, everything seems to be going fine, and we just recently saw new locations popping up around the nation.
Even the Roly Poly menu has been updated to include not just a sandwich but salads and soups too.
Sandwiches are made fresh daily without compromising on quality. You can get both cold and hot-pressed sandwiches, making it a dream spot for any kind of weather.
For now, Louisiana is the stronghold for Roly Poly, with 10 locations in sight. Georgia is 2nd with 4 and Indiana with 2.

Popeye’s Tuna is the immediate winner with its massive list of ingredients, and yeah, tuna is my favorite!
It comes with light dill tuna salad, plum, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, baby spinach, onion, and dill pickle slices wrapped on a whole wheat tortilla.
Pickle, onion, and plum are the three ingredients that make the best blend I love. It makes each bite filled with three layers of flavors: sour, sweet, and salty.
And that’s exactly what I got. No wonder Roly has polyed all these times. This combo is both generous and genius at the same time.
Remember that each cold sandwich has a hot-pressed version. Usually, cold ones are the best at giving off an authentic vibe.
Next up was a 6-inch steak fajita. It’s in today’s special, so how can we ignore that? It comes with loads of ingredients, just like the first one.
Sliced steak, melted cheddar cheese, tomato, onion, green pepper, and grilled golden brown as for sauce, you’ll get Fajita Sauce with a Side of Salsa.
The Fajita Sauce is a hit or miss; I personally didn’t like it. The salsa was great for this item. The Fajita itself was well made.
That is a big surprise since that’s not what they should be known for. A sandwich shop that specializes in more non-sandwich dishes than the sandwich itself!
A bit weird, but in a good way. These fajitas are really good. No wonder it’s a top seller. Traditional sandwiches have their own charm, but nothing beats a good, warm meal!
