Nusr-Et Steakhouse History

Nusret Gökçe, also known as Salt Bae, is a butcher from Turkey. He didn’t have the best childhood at the time, and that luck ended up forcing him to become a butcher’s apprentice at the age of 11.

His father was a mineworker, and he didn’t have the best financial situation going on for him. That was the biggest reason for his early maturity.

Nusret worked in many restaurants throughout the world, and the worst part was that he didn’t get anything. Yes, it was all for free.

Despite the condition, he traveled to the USA and Argentina, and that’s where he learned more about cooking or preparing steak.

He already knew how to cut the meat, but cooking it, on the other hand, had many difficulties in itself. But just knowing how to cook isn’t enough.

If you are alone, then you also have to learn how to manage things. So he also experienced how to become an entrepreneur during his visits to the USA and Argentina between 2007 and 2010.

Then soon after, in 2010, he opened his first restaurant in Istanbul, the place where he took his apprenticeship in buttering.

Then, in 2014, he opened his first big international restaurant, named Nusr-Et Steakhouse. The first four characters come from his name, while “Et” means meat in Turkish.

Millions of customers came to his restaurant throughout the world just to see him in motion after the meme made him famous. So did the steak taste any better after that?

It turns out that it was fantastic even before the meme went crazy. However, the growth in popularity helped him spread his taste to a wider audience.

Nusr-Et Steakhouse Review

Meme aside, when it comes to the real deal, the Nusr-Et Steakhouse menu and prices didn’t disappoint a bit.

Like Nusret Special Salad, which is a lighter meal. This special salad has what it takes. And the best part is the flavor.

This Nusr-Et Steakhouse menu has garden greens, feta cheese, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, green apples, and raisins topped with pomegranate dressing.

Main dishes like beef carpaccio are also there, which is also a specialty dish. You can even see the entire making process if you like.

First, beef tenderloin is cut into a pizza dough shape, and then it gets filled with rocket, parmesan, and mustard. Then it gets rolled, and aged balsamic vinegar is added as a finishing touch.

What if you are looking for something strong? Then Smoked Rib Eye is there to fill your hunger. You better be, because this is huge and hot.

You’ll get smoked rib eye with rocket, cherry tomato, and parmesan, which is then prepared with virgin olive oil.

Final Thoughts

Nusr-Et Steakhouse menu prices didn’t become a big hit on the first day. It took him many more years until the meme era began.

Then someone took a video showing how he prepares steak for his customer. The way he sprinkled the salt looked funny and was the perfect meme material at the time.

The same meme ran until 2024, and in fact, you may see it in some of your friendly chats even now.

Anyway, that’s how he got the name Salt Bae. Salt is salt; there is nothing to say about it. As for Bae, it’s like an alias that lovers use.

So in short, his salt sprinkling technique sounded like “Have some of my salt, babe” in a funny way. So that was the time when his business boomed.

Meme hit his business hard and encouraged our Salt Bae to go above and beyond his limits. Then he made many signature dishes of his own, like that salad we just mentioned.

He is a true fanatic who not only loves making delicious and eye-catching food, but he does it with pride and honor.
