Rodilla History
The US branches were opened in 2019. But Rodilla in itself has a deep history going for it.
It was founded somewhere between 1939 and 1940 by Antonio Rodilla. His surname became the brand image that we know.
He chose a small store in downtown Madrid, Spain, and opened his confectionery shop. He served a lot of dishes, from his tasty sweets to cakes, sandwiches, and even breakfast dishes.
It was mostly lightweight because it resembled a cafe and a restaurant. A few years later, he decided to do something different.
He tried his hands on a sandwich, which basically means a sandwich made with cold meat. But the problem was the ample supply of bread.
So he made his own in his store and named it “English Bread.” Expansion began all the way in the 1970s, and since then he has made a lot of sandwich recipes with both cold and hot meat.
In 1992, a new firm was created under the name ”Artesanía de la Alimentación.” It was a centralized supply chain that managed all ingredients across every single store out there.
Major expansion began a year after that, and five locations were opened in the same year. Rodilla now has about 60–70 locations in Madrid alone.
If we sum it up for the entire nation, then the counter will grow beyond 160. By 2012, Sociedad Anónima Damm had most of the rights to Rodilla.
After 3 years, Damm managed to get all the rights and officially acquired Rodilla for good. The international expansion started right after that.
It finally landed on the shores of Miami in 2019, followed by two more in the neighborhood of Wynwood.
Two of them offer dine-in, takeout, and home delivery, while the first one offers no-contact delivery.
Rodilla Review

We headed to Wynwood to check out everything. The first meal on the menu was a pack of four individual Rodilla Traditional Sandwiches.
Choose 4 out of 13 available fillings, a perfect way to experience most of what Rodilla has to offer at a comfortable price.
The chicken curry sandwich, serrano ham sandwich, smoked salmon sandwich, bacon sandwich, and egg sandwich were our preferred choices.
The first and last ones were especially great. Serrano Ham was good too, but not our type, that’s for sure.
Salmon had mixed reactions, but overall it was okay. Well, at least now we know which kinds of flavors to look for.
The chicken curry was exceptionally good, and we soon found its competitor in the form of a toasted chicken chili wrap.
Traditional Flour Tortilla filled with sliced grilled chicken, and their made-from-scratch chipotle sauce.
The chicken again put the nail on the head. It was well grilled to perfection, and the slices were just the right size.
It definitely made each bite easier to chew, while the big pieces may make the whole tortilla thing a bit unusual.
Someone used their intelligence to its fullest, that’s for sure. Enough salt; it’s time for some sugar! And Pain au Chocolat got our immediate attention.
A sweet chocolate-filled hard bread with sugar shavings on top—doesn’t that sound lovely? It’s made hot every day and then stored until everything runs out.
Well, at least our serving cake is piping hot. And last up was an organic smoothie made with mango and peach.
It was a great way to end the day, and the best part about it was that it had six more flavors!

Rodilla menu is truly extravagant, but what about their locations? The biggest question is whether they will expand to other areas of the country.
And for the time being, that seems quite unlikely. Rodilla has a loyal fanbase, a good lineup of dishes, and a calming environment.
But even with that, their popularity doesn’t seem to skyrocket like others. Maybe it needs more meat dishes?
Whatever the reason may be, the expansion in the USA at least seems like a dream. Spain is its origin, so Rodilla will focus there rather than here.
Well, the good part is that Rodilla ain’t going anywhere. Tourists play a massive role in their income, and Miami has loads of them.
