The Melting Pot History

The Melting Pot Inside usamenuprices

The first melting pot was spotted in Maitland, Florida, in April of 1975. It was a suburban city, full of all sorts of people.

The melting pot promoted a unique Swiss way of eating called fondue. It consists of a big pot full of Swiss-melted cheese, wine, and dishes.

The pot is then slowly burned with a candle or a spirit lamp so the melted cheese doesn’t lose its heat. The dishes are dipped in the pot using a very long fork.

It’s similar to what Chinese or Japanese people use: the chopstick. Probably the same length; who knows?

Anyway, The Melted Pot introduced this very way of eating. At first, they had just three items: Swiss cheese, beef, and a chocolate dessert.

And wine, of course, but as their popularity grew, so did the menu. Franchising began in 1979 when Mark, Mike, and Bob Johnston came forward as new franchisors.

They opened The Melting Pot in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1985, those gentlemen officially acquired all rights regarding The Melting Pot and started the expansion.

But remember that at this point, there was no legalization of the franchise. Mark and his gang technically did what a franchise does, but the original owners have no intention of going big anytime soon.

So the legal process began after the official acquisition, and in 1986, The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. started its cooperation.

The Johnston brothers had a big role since it went mainstream. All menu items were revised to be better versions of themselves.

Thanks to that, they now have the 4-course meal that we all love, along with A la Carte, Thursedate, Box-to-Go, and much more.

Just recently, a 5-course menu was introduced. It’s a VIP event, so make sure that you can endure the final bill.

The Melting Pot Review

There should be no doubts about The Melting Pot menu or prices at this point. It’s a family restaurant, so there will be full-course meals rather than single ones.

We had our eyes on the Best Fondue Friends Forever menu. If you are with your lover, then go on Thursday; that is much more suitable.

Our crew decided on this since it had a 3-course menu, which we needed. Along with our large trio, we went there with full force.

New! Bacon Mac & Cheese Fondue was our preferred choice. It’s a new addition, and each serving summed around 314 calories.

Aged cheddar was the base. It has a strong fragrance, which we just adore. But it may be unbearable to some, so be prepared.

The pot also had Emmenthaler, Macaroni, Crispy Bacon, Gorgonzola, Shallots, and Toasted Garlic Bread Crumbs.

For veggies, we went with the classic Melting Pot House. It had mixed greens, croutons, cheddar, tomatoes, eggs, and scallops.

Meats, French baguettes, seasonal veggies, fruit, and pretzel bread were also there as a bonus.

What a feast! This was a massive meal; as expected, thankfully, our gang was hungry; otherwise, most of it would be wasted.

The bacon and shallots tasted quite good with the melted cheese. Meanwhile, their artisan-cured meat was something else.

It was ready from the get-go; all we needed was to dip it in the melted cheese and put it in our mouths.

And man, oh man, the meat melted in our mouths. It tasted like never before—an entirely new experience from scratch.

The veggies usually don’t taste that great. But when dipped in this heavenly cheese, it somehow regains a sense of taste.

No veggie should taste this good; that’s a straight-up crime. Veggies are supposed to taste bad, right? Well, not anymore.

Final Thoughts

We had lemonade and a few desserts before wrapping everything up. The main 3-course meal was more than enough to satisfy our hunger.

The BFFF Dippers came as a surprise; maybe that’s why it’s called a 3-course meal. The Melting Pot menu also had other items like entrees; adding them will turn it into a 4-course meal, or so we heard.

The Melting Pot truly serves one of the most revolutionary dining experiences ever. It doesn’t take a big toll on the wallet, nor does it cheap out on ingredients.

What more can you ask for? Think no more and get your hands on a fondue dinner right now!
