Sizzler History

Sizzler started on January 27th, 1958. The 20th century was a bright time when many famous brands were born.

The Sizzler was also one of them. But did you know why Del and Helen Johnson named it Sizzler?

It comes from their dishes. If you even ate an instantly made meat dish, then you already know the answer to that.

When meat comes instantly from the kitchen, its oil retains some heat. This heat then releases from the meat as tiny bubbles.

These bubbles then explode and make a faint sound. It sounds similar to what coke is made after it’s poured into a cup.

This sizzle sound gave birth to the Sizzler menu. Around the 1970s, the Sizzler menu promoted steak-based items throughout the US.

The business was going smoothly until a competitor came in the mid-1980s: Ponderosa Steakhouse and Bonanza Steakhouse.

They promoted their buffet court, where you could eat all you wanted for a single charge. To counter that, the Sizzler made a foolish decision.

They lowered the quality of their food, which did more than reduce the cost. And they also introduced a free grilled cheese bread roll at the start of the meal.

The bread part was good, but the quality loss was pretty bad. Customers took note of that, and soon Sizzler menu lost a massive part of its user base.

This loss also took a huge toll on the sale, and in 1996, a bankruptcy was filed. Sizzler menu closed 130 locations and, just after a year, was able to emerge from this nightmare.

So to counter that, a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition was filed. At one time, Sizzler had over 250 restaurants in the US alone, but now it has fallen to 84.

Sizzler Review

Despite all the losses in the past, Sizzler menu and prices still managed to impress its customers. Even if most of them came from their US branch alone.

Anyhow, let the past rest and let us enjoy the delicious food they make. The New York Strip had us surprised. It’s a rather interesting steak dish that is fried in fat-free oil—a healthy addition to your regular diet that doesn’t hurt your wallet either.

This item includes the steak lover cut that is lean, juicy, and tender. You can also have a choice of sides, like salad or other kinds of veggies.

Meanwhile, massive meals like steak and jumbo crispy shrimp blew our minds. This combo includes six jumbo crispy shrimp served with six ounces of hand-cut tri-tip sirloin. Additionally, you can order a choice of your side dish. Yup side dish for totally free!

Well, we still managed to cramp one Mega Bacon Burger up! It had a 1/3-pound beef patty topped with cheddar bacon and cheese. As a side dish, you’ll get homemade fries. What about you? Did you manage to do all that, just like us?

Final Thoughts

The Sizzler menu with prices has more than what you are seeing here. Some menus come in the festival season, while more will be added over time.

The side dishes also have a pretty selection. French fries are the fan favorite, but you can also have creamy mashed potatoes or anything else from the list.

But the desert section seems a bit underwhelming. As of this moment, they have only two selections: carrot cake and triple chocolate cake.

It seems like deserts aren’t the strong point of Sizzler. Anyway, the best part is that we can order from a good selection of meats.

There is nothing to criticize. But yeah, if you are a vegan, then it seems like a bad place for you. There are no main dishes that are vegan-exclusive.

So all you can have are deserts or side dishes, which is not what Sizzler is known for. But yeah, if all you need is meat, then trying the Sizzler menu is the perfect option for you!
