Honey Baked Ham History
It all started when a crazy man tried to make his dream come true. Some dream about fantasy, but this man dreamed of a bone-in spiral slicer.
Everyone had different opinions when that man decided to turn his dream into reality, and in fact, he did.
The name of that man was Harry J. Hoenselaar, the one and only who invented the spiral slicer using nothing but a tire jack, a washing machine motor, a pie tin, and a knife. It was still a prototype at that point, but the result was a dream come true!
Then, in 1930, after six years of inventing the prototype, he finally decided to sell his fruits of labor in a drugstore in Detroit. The result was a juicy honey-glazed ham made from that same spiral slicer.
He also taught the lunch counter clerks how to slice a ham to perfection. Then somehow later, he bought that same drugstore where he first shared his signature item for just 500 dollars.
