The Keg Steakhouse History
The Keg was founded in 1971 as The Keg ‘n Cleaver. George Tidball was the person behind this idea. He used the Moodyville area of lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver, British Columbia, as its starting location.
But now it has grown to nine provisions in Canada and five major states in the United States of America. But do you know that Keg is also known for something else?
Food is great and all, but The Keg has also turned many historical properties into full-fledged restaurants.
The Keg Mansion in Toronto, for example, Previously, it was known as Euclid Hall. It was used as an art gallery, as a banquet hall, and even served under Victoria College.
Regardless of what the past was, the Keg saw this huge opportunity and nailed it. Now it’s one of many popular locations of The Keg Steakhouse.
But the major growth came from their signature dishes, the Keg Caesar and the Billy Miner Pie.
Thanks to those two fantastic recipes, the Keg Steakhouse menu was called “Good Times,” and the famous saying “See You Tonight” was carved.
Around the 1980s, the founder sold The Keg Steakhouse to a UK-based company named Whitbread.
After this, The Keg’s internal staff expanded their reach to eastern Canada. Along with them came the famous “Keg Cup,” which soon turned into an annual tradition.
The keg bread was the highlight of this festival, and it started the era of good nights. Not the kind we say before sleeping, though!
Instead, it’s a tribute to a well-made night filled with delicious foods and drinks. That’s where the bar part comes in.
The Keg Steakhouse Review
The Keg Steakhouse has locations throughout Canada. But this time we focused on the menus from US-based restaurants.
Most of them are widely available in all of their restaurants. But some can be region-exclusive, so please keep that in mind.
Gruyère Mushroom Dip, for example. It’s a vegetarian dinner dish that has a perfect blend of creamy base and chewy mushrooms.
It includes mushrooms as the main ingredient. Poblano peppers, Gruyère cheese, cream cheese, and pull-apart bread are further added for the full meal.
Meanwhile, keg steaks and prime rib were a massive meal, even for us. We will recommend inviting some friends for this one.
In this huge combo, you’ll get a keg steak that is aged for extra flavor and tenderness and then cooked to perfection with keg seasoning.
Both keg steaks and prime rib are made with the same level of perfection and then served with your choice of accompaniment.
But Keg Classics won us over. It is the star dish of the show and is also well known for its sheer number of options.
You are allowed to start with your choice of salad. Then choose steak or prime rib options served with sautéed mushrooms.
Then, in the end, you can have a choice of accompaniment from six options. If you don’t know which to pick, then just go with the cauliflower mash.

The Keg always had a good bar included in their menu. Around the 1990s, the current chairman, David Aisenstat, joined hands and turned it into the modern Keg we know today.
The focus on The Keg Classic was tightened as, just a few years later, in 2000, the 100th location was opened.
