Coco’s Bakery History

The first store of the bakery came up in 1948 at Corona del Mar, California as the Snack Shop. The founders John and Audrey Mcintosh purchased the bakery just after John had worked in the bakery for a few days.

John in partnership with his brother-in-law Bill McIntyre operated and expanded the business to Reuben’s in Newport Beach by the end of 1960.

In 1965, the in-law duo took The Snack Shop concept to Coco’s and Reuben E Lee, ultimately converting all of the Snack Shop to Coco, and that marked the official beginning of Coco’s Bakery’s journey.

After all, the Snack Shop locations and new franchise locations of the Reubens were all converted to Coco, the entire property was sold to W.R. Grace and Company which was a chemical conglomerate based in New York.

In the process, Grace added local Mexican restaurant chains like Carrows which went on to become the sister company of Coco.

Coco’s Bakery was then acquired by Catalina Restaurant Group along with Carrows and from then, its ownership shifted to a Japanese company named Zensho Co. Ltd.

Finally, in September 2018, Shari’s Café & Pies took over Coco’s Bakery and the company continues to own Coco. Currently, Coco’s has 100 locations serving in Los Angeles and other places.

Since day zero, Coco’s Bakery has made sure that it serves hot and fresh baked goodies to each of its customers. Coco’s Bakery happens to be one of the few bakery-cum restaurants operating in America.

It experiences cut-throat competition from similar casual dining restaurants with in-house bakeries like Hof’s Hut, Polly’s Pies, and others.

Over the years Coco’s Bakery’s menu with prices has evolved a lot. What started as a snack shop now offers a meal at any time of the day.

Although the namesake refers it to as a bakery, Coco is more than just a baking junction. From breakfast to lunch, Coco’s Bakery’s menu caters to all your needs.

The bakery-cum restaurant offers its mothering delicacy at affordable Coco’s Bakery menu prices.
