Saltgrass Steak House History

The first public record began in 1991, according to the founder at the time. The original staff also tells the same story.

In the 1800s, millions of longhorns were scattered around the north, only to gather around the Texas Gulf Coast.

The fields were filled with salt grass, which not only gave the steak a natural salty flavor but also made it easier to dry and prepare.

After these animals had their filling, they were aimed toward the market, following the legendary Salt Grass Trail.

This trail was famous for its flavorful beef and dressings. The northern side learns about beef supremacy through this tale.

We can thank those Longhorns for their immense contribution towards the future, which we are enjoying right now.

You may even remember hearing about a steakhouse called Longhorn, which also has the same story as Saltgrass Steakhouse.

Anyhow, our main target, Saltgrass, was opened at the Katy Freeway, which was directly in the path of that legendary trail.

Hundreds of cattle herders were driving their livestock through this route while enjoying authentic beef meat whenever this restaurant popped into their sight.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo were their next stops after having a great meal. It was more like a tradition for those cattle herders, which gave rise to their empire.

Saltgrass Steak House now has around 80 restaurants around the country, serving the same level of love and authenticity to a wider audience.

In September 2002, Saltgrass Steak House was officially acquired by Landry’s Inc. along with a 24-unit chain for $75 million.

Tilman J. Fertitta was the active CEO and sole owner of Landry’s, Inc. After the acquisition, Tilman moved the headquarters to the Uptown area of Houston.

Saltgrass Steak House Review

At this point, we are aware of the Saltgrass Steak House menu and prices. Most steakhouses charge a bit more than fast food.

But that’s acceptable since we are also getting larger portions. But remember that the Saltgrass Steak House menu may have different dishes in different locations.

Anyway, we started with an appetizer called Fried Pickles & Peppers. It was a simple dish with a traditional pickle flavor.

A rather unique composition, and yeah, you can opt out of the rance, savoring the main attraction of this dish with no distractions.

Next up on our list was a good lunch menu. Under the wing of new management, many new items and dishes were introduced.

But still, the classic Original Chopped Steak just hits differently. It was made with a juicy piece of beef steak, grated cheese, and diced tomatoes.

You can also pick a side dish of your choice; we went with two broccoli each, but you can even add rice to the list.

Anyway, the steak was something else. Grated cheese isn’t something we see every day.

But it enhanced the saltiness of the steak. Meanwhile, Broccoli made sure that we didn’t overwhelm ourselves.

Next was a Caesar salad, and then we ended our lunch with a sweet homemade carrot cake. The sweetness was on the low side, and that’s how a carrot cake should taste.

Meanwhile, the salad was filled with Romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, croutons, and Caesar dressing. Just a plain ordinary Caesar salad—nothing more, nothing less.

And yeah, a glass of strawberry lemonade—we forgot to mention that. It was sweet and sour like anyone would expect.

These last three dishes did a perfect job at cleaning up the cheese smell, oiliness from our mouth, and vitamin imbalance in the overall dish.
