Sisters Bakery started its journey in the fall of 2012 in Detroit’s West Village, Michigan. The founder Lisa launched the bakery on Thanksgiving out of her parent’s Milford’s Kitchen. From day zero, Sisters Bakery started selling pies and cookies from the small kitchen.

Initially, Sistesr Bakery baked forty pies and sold them which was a lot in those days. The bakery was named so, owing to the sincere and beautiful endearment Lisa and her sister Sarah shared and also to showcase that the concept has originated and is inspired by strong women.

When Sisters Bakery gained momentum after one year of business, Lisa took her rolling pin and moved to a nearby location which was a shared commercial kitchen in Hanna House on Woodward.

Soon Lisa met a dedicated inter Anji who kept on slicing apples so that Sisters Bakery could meet the 150 pie order for their second Thanksgiving.

In 2014, Sisters Bakery began spreading its charm over local shops and cafes and in the same year, Anji became a permanent part-time employee at Sisters Bakery.

For the next two years, Lisa and her family and friends set their eyes on a nearby location at Parker and Kercheval and tried all their might to make the bakery of their dreams.

Struggles of Sisters Bakery

Initially, Lisa started renting the space and hosting Future Sisters Bakery workshops. After a lot of fundraising and winning contests, Sisters Bakery finally opened in 2015 April with a dozen of employees and since then they have not stopped hustling.

Sisters Bakery received acclimation from the press, food critics, and more in the initial days. They started offering Pie Dough classes to eager home bakers in 2016 and the response was superb.

In the very same year, Lisa was approached to write a cookbook of her unique recipes and spread her story of success. The book features 75 recipes and has reached out to several foodies out there.
