Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill History
Jack Bertram and his wife Pat started this journey in Cerritos, California, around 1976. It was a good time, and the couple saw some good sales charts too.
Firstly, it was just a pizza-serving restaurant. But Jack had already perfected some recipes in his 9-month-long experimentation before the first store was opened.
He invented the classic flavors as well as their dessert lineup. He also had wines in between, which gave him a clear understanding of which liquor goes where.
Thanks to that, the first store has everything from great pizzas to specially smoked meat and liquor that binds everything together.
Slowly, HDTVs were also hung in their stores, making sports fans extra happy. It was an instant hit, and slowly it turned into a big deal in the region of Cerritos.
In 1986, Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill officially entered the market for franchising. Two more locations were opened, both of which are owned by the Bertram family.
The second one opened in 2004 at Old Town La Quinta, and the final one opened at Westfield Palm Desert in 2014.
Now only two locations exist, but that’s still fine; everyone from Palm Desert and La Quinta knows who these people are and what kind of food they make.
Their menu has expanded beyond 100 at this point, and that’s what kept those people hooked throughout this year.
The food, bar, and happy hours were the spotlight of the old Stuft Pizza, which surprisingly still exists in this day and age.
The service is said to be top-notch and has an authentic atmosphere from the 1990s. In April of last year, massive renovation work was in progress.
It should be finished at this point, enhancing the overall atmosphere and taking it to the next level, as they say.
Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill Review
Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill menu and prices have many variations. Everything starts with a smaller meal, like entrees, goes into the main dish, and eventually ends with wine or dessert.
We will follow the same strategy. After staring at the Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill menu for over 20 minutes, we finally decided on our course.
First, we started with southwestern egg rolls. This is a rather unique dish that we don’t see every day.
It had chicken, Monterey Jack, corn, onions, black beans, etc. inside a flour tortilla.
It was fried to a golden crisp and then served with a Chipotle Ranch Dipping Sauce. A rather long list for such a smaller item.
Just imagine how long it would’ve taken to develop this masterpiece. The combination of egg and chicken was totally out of this world.
The texture, flavor, and sweetness of the dipping sauce gave us a mouthful of what was coming next on the table.
Next up was the Classic Stuft Special Pizza, and you can pretty much guess where this one is going.
The thick dough was filled with pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and fresh tomatoes.
This is the award-winning recipe that we were waiting for. And we learned the truth the minute the first slice was served in my mouth.
It was fluffy, with no hardness at all, and the saltiness was just perfect. It was a bit spicy, though, so not everyone can enjoy it, I guess.
Anyway, it was just perfect—a classic texture that most modern pizzas lack. It came with sausage instead of chicken or steak, so again, that’s your personal choice.
We enjoyed it quite a bit. The more you eat, the heavier the flavor will get instead of blasting everything from the get-go.
