Steak ‘n Shake History

Steak 'n Shake Inside usamenuprices

In February 1934, at Normal, Illinois, A. H. “Gus’ Belt founded this soon-to-be massive restaurant.

He previously owned two small businesses: a chicken restaurant and a gas station. Then he decided to convert them into a hamburger stand.

He made each ingredient right in the shop. The crowd loved that and called it “In Sight, It Must Be Right.”

That’s how their famous slogan was born, which symbolized his working stage of making his steam patty.

The main goal of doing this was to show how each of their plates was served and whether it was hygienic enough for their tummies.

This act of wholesomeness was the main reason why people loved his creation. 50% was its taste, and another 20% was the stage.

But wait, what about the other 30%? Well, that comes from Milkshake. These shakes were hand-dipped, following the same tradition as the steak.

Well, now you can’t see all this in action unless you are close to one of their grills. But the company has promised that the original ways of Gus will remain with them.

Anyone can still see all this happening in their grill; nobody will stop you or charge extra.

Unfortunately, the founder died on August 20, 1954. Leaving his family behind. The ownership was soon transferred to his wife after his death.

The ownership changed countless times during this period until a Persian entrepreneur called Sardar Biglari took over the business in August 2008.

Before this, the chain was losing over $100,000 each day for three straight years. The new management sought to fix that and was able to somehow stabilize the brand.

Biglari turned the loss into a profit. The reason behind it was the focus on Burger, which soon became their brand image.

Steak ‘n Shake Review

Steak ‘n Shake menu or prices have rather interesting turns. Well, we won’t expect any less from almost a century-old chain.

We arrived at the right time because there was a combo offer going on. There were a lot of them, but we ultimately settled on the Frisco Melt Combo.

It had two steakburgers topped with American and/or Swiss cheeses. The dough was made with buttery grilled chicken and their original Frisco sauce.

Fried food and drinks are also included in this combo. Well, that’s the perfect treat for us since it exposes 3–4 items in one.

We’ll recommend going for a specialty shake as the drink option; add a piece of bacon or two if you need more protein. Otherwise, the default combination is perfect.

The classic steakburger was something else. The patty was smooth and juicy, while the Frisco sauce made it even better.

The shake complimented the burger quite well. The sweetness of the shake and the flavorful saltiness of the steak—what more can we ask for?

It turns out that it was enough for our diet. In the end, we had to go for a bigger fish called a garlic double steakburger.

The garlic taste is refreshing indeed, and who knew that we could have both burgers and garlic at the same time?

Well, it had two steakburgers topped with American cheese. The toasted bun was served with garlic butter and garlic salt.

The bun was crispy, and the smell of garlic was indeed strong. Meanwhile, the steakburger was perfect as always. There’s nothing much to say; most Americans already know how good a burger they make.

The last item was a chocolate milkshake. You can also go for Oreo variants; there are quite a few of them.

Final Thoughts

Steak ‘n Shake menu has some of the finest dishes honed for almost a century. Many owners came and went and left behind their perfection for the next.

Milkshakes were also given as a token of appreciation for those who bought many dishes. For example, each $20 was rewarded with a $2 bonus.

Anyway, there was a lot of brainwork in place, and in the end, Biglari Holdings managed to fix the past mistakes by turning the $100,000 loss into a profit for 24 quarters straight.

Our team gives a big thumbs up to Steak ‘n Shake and their creations. It ain’t overloaded with too many dishes; whatever they have is perfected to the bitter end.
